YVR’s chaplain Layne Daggett has been helping YVR new arrivals adjust to their new lives in Canada for over 25 years. In fact, he’s received the B.C. Lieutenant Governor’s Citation of Citizenship for his humanitarian efforts.
Daggett’s Chaplaincy is open daily from 7am to 11am and offers a haven for travellers looking for a peaceful respite. It’s located on the arrivals level of the International Terminal, adjacent to the food court area.
Daggett coordinates shelter and transportation for people in need, assists disoriented travellers, and comforts those travelling due to a family illness or death.
On September 11, 2001, when hundreds of flights were diverted to YVR, Chaplain Daggett’s team worked around the clock to help find accommodation and offer support to stranded passengers, including finding a stranded Korean passenger who spoke limited English and connecting her by phone with her daughter overseas. During its 25 years at YVR, the Chaplaincy has also provided more than 3,000 refugee claimants with emergency assistance and assisted with their placement in homes, community agencies and faith communities.
The Vancouver Airport Chaplaincy is funded by donations from members of the public and sponsors that recognize the important work done every day by Chaplain Daggett and his team.
