Free WiFi at YVR: Just because you’re in transit doesn’t mean you’re offline

by Alisa on February 25, 2009 · 5 comments

It’s true! There’s free Wifi at the Airport.

YVR is the first major airport in Canada to offer free wireless access throughout its terminals. Over the last few months, more than 70 WiFi antennas, (access points) have been installed throughout the International, Domestic and South Terminals. Need to check flight schedules or make reservations, you can browse from a laptop or a WIFI-enabled phone with a couple clicks.

Launched on November 1, the free WiFi service is already being used by almost 3000 people a day. YVR has long been an airport leader in providing WiFi; when Nokia first introduced wireless Internet access in 2000, YVR was the first airport in North America to offer the service.

If you see students hanging out at the airport at all hours – now you’ll know why.

It doesn’t work for iPads!

Hi Brent,

Hmmm, the WiFi should work for iPads, as I’ve used one personally in the airport while travelling. Once you connect, you need to open the browser and agree to the terms of use, or if you did that, perhaps something else glitched.

Sorry it didn’t work for you, hopefully next time you’ll be able to connect

Thanks,

Kelly
