I blogged earlier that we were all pretty excited here that for the first time in Olympic Games history, an airport was named an Official Supplier and that it’s YVR. Go B.C.!
Since the announcement, people who know that I work for the Airport Authority ask me what this sponsorship really means… aren’t people coming to YVR for the 2010 Winter Games anyway?
To this I reply that indeed, people will be using YVR, but as a supplier we get to take a lead role (the anchor in a speed skating relay if you will) in how we get the many people, planes and bags through our airport quickly and smoothly. For the more detail oriented out there, the Airport Authority commits:
- dedicated airport amenities and services for VANOC and 2010 Winter Games activities
- accreditation processing and departure screening facilities
- expedited passenger arrivals and baggage services
- specialized training for airport staff
- parking and ground transportation services
- office space
It’ll be pretty cool to be here at YVR when fans, athletes, coaches, VIPs (Hello President Obama) will be coming through. YVR will be a venue in a way. A very dynamic venue if I do say so myself…arriving with snow capped mountains to the north and a bright airport with tons of art and cool architecture. It’ll be busy, no doubt, but I think everyone will be jazzed that the 2010 Winter Games are finally here.
