The Future Lands Here at YVR
YVR’s School Program The Future Lands Here is an educational airport program geared towards grade five students from Metro Vancouver schools. This complimentary tour program provides students the opportunity to learn about the wonder of travel and aviation at Vancouver International Airport (YVR).
Each tour starts when students are met at the Canada Line Templeton Station. From there, a short ride on the Canada Line is followed by a guided walk through the terminal building to learn about airport procedures that the students may use when travelling with their families. In addition, students learn about YVR’s geography and natural surroundings, its connections to First Nations’ culture and history and the many sustainable initiatives at the airport. Practical, informative, interactive activities are conducted with the students as well as a visit to the Public Observation Area.
YVR’s School Program The Future Lands Here was first launched in 2009 and provides an important connection to our local community. To date, close to five thousand students have experienced an exciting field trip and gain useful knowledge about airport travel during the program. A short video of the program can be seen here.
The 2011 program runs from September 27 to November 24. Invitations for Metro Vancouver schools to register were distributed in May 2011. If you would like to register your Grade Five class for the 2011 program, email school_program@yvr.ca for details.
